Can I Umpire/Referee Games?

The SRAA uses a combination of adults and older kids to officiate games.

Soccer: All soccer referees undergo training and testing at courses held over the summer prior to the fall soccer season. All prospective first-time referees must attend a CYC soccer referee training class, approximately nine hours of class typically held over three days, and pass the course test on the final day. All prospective returning referees must annually attend a rules refresher session and pass the course test. All prospective referees must be entering at least Grade 7 in the fall.

Basketball: All basketball referees must attend a rules clinic prior to the start of the CYC season. The rules clinic is typically held in November. All prospective referees must be in at least Grade 7 as of the first game of the season. If you're interested in refereeing or scorekeeping basketball games, contact Bill Davis.
